House rules
- Card values
- Number cards count at face value. Jacks, Queens and Kings count 10. An Ace counts 11, or 1 whenever 11 would take the hand past 21.
- The dealer's fixed rule
- The dealer draws on 16 or less and stands on every 17, including a soft 17 (a 17 that counts an Ace as 11). No exceptions, no judgement calls.
- Blackjack
- An Ace plus any 10-value card on your first two cards is a natural. It pays 3 to 2 — a 20-coin stake returns your 20 plus 30 more.
- Wins, losses and pushes
- Beat the dealer's total without busting and you are paid 1 to 1. Go over 21 and the stake is lost. Tie the dealer and your stake comes straight back.
- Double down
- On your first two cards you may double the stake and take exactly one more card, if your balance covers it.
- The deck
- Each round uses a full 52-card deck, shuffled fresh before the deal.
